Balochistan Assembly Speaker Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has hinted at stepping down from his post, a private TV channel reported.
Bizenjo is likely to tender his resignation to Balochistan Governor Justice (r) Amanullah KhanYasinzai after consultation with some of his close aides.
The leader of Balochistan Awami Party complained that he had been ‘sidelined’ on all important matters in the province. “As a member of provincial assembly, I will be able to serve my people and the province in a far better way,” he said, adding that by retaining the post of speaker, he does not want to be a burden on the province. “Designations do not mean anything to me … I believe in serving the people,” he said, and announced to hold a press conference on the matter very soon.
Sources privy to the matter believe that Bizenjo aims at securing development funds and other political gains under the pretext of resignation announcement. The speaker reportedly also wants some people of his choice accommodated on the position of chief minister’s special assistant.
It is worth mentioning here that Bizenjo was elected to the post of speaker of Balochistan Assembly as a joint candidate of Balochistan Awami Party and six other parties.
