Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) on Friday commemorated the efforts of politicians, lawyers and journalists for their efforts for the reestablishment of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). IHCBA organized an event to confer souvenirs to former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, ex law minister Dr Babar Awan, ex IHCBA President Sajjad Afzal Cheema, senior lawyers Shoaib Shaheen, Iftikhar Ahmed Cheema, ex Member National Assembly (MNA) Anjum Aqeel Khan and journalists Asad Malik and Awais Yousafzai. Speaking on this occasion, incumbent President IHCBA Raja Inam Ameen Minhas said that since the IHC was established in pursuance of November 3, 2007 actions of the then military ruler retired General Pervez Musharraf, the Supreme Court unfortunately declared this court as illegal in its July 31, 2009 judgment in which the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) was declared void ab initio. The then elected body of the IHCBA comprising its President Cheema and Minhas who was the Secretary IHCBA started efforts for the revival of the high court. He recollected that the then Prime Minister Gillani assured them of making efforts for restoration of IHC.
